Ideas of enduring value

The value
of understanding.

Progress begins with a willingness to ask questions and understand connections. Education strengthens the ability to place knowledge in context and exercise independent judgement. Research expands our understanding of what may be possible, using methods whose findings can be tested, challenged and developed further.

At a time of profound technological change, intellectual depth, independent judgement and a long-term perspective matter more than ever. This outlook shapes the Foundation’s interest in education and research as subjects of social and cultural significance.

Three perspectives / 01–03

Knowledge and
responsibility.

Three areas define the Foundation’s perspective: the transmission of knowledge, the quality of scientific enquiry, and the responsible use of emerging possibilities.

01 / EDUCATION

Pass knowledge on.

Education achieves lasting value when it deepens understanding and equips individuals to assess complex issues independently. Beyond acquiring information, it involves the ability to question, apply and pass on knowledge with care across generations.

02 / RESEARCH

Ask better questions.

Scientific insight depends on curiosity, methodological rigour and a willingness to challenge assumptions. Particular interest lies in enquiries that deepen long-term understanding and provide a sound basis for responsible decisions.

03 / INTERDISCIPLINARY THINKING

Connect disciplines.

Where culture, documentation and modern technology meet, new ways of preserving and interpreting knowledge emerge. Such intersections illustrate how established understanding and new methods can complement each other.

Culture and technology

Preserve,
then advance.

Engagement with art demonstrates the importance of reliable documentation, historical context and careful stewardship of knowledge. Digital methods can support these tasks, but never replace expertise or critical assessment.

This meeting of cultural understanding and technological precision is an important point of reference in the Foundation’s approach to education and research.

Institutional perspective

With foresight.
With judgement.

Education and research form part of GFM-Stiftung’s wider intellectual outlook. Any specific economic or cultural initiative considered by the Foundation would be assessed for its substance, risks and compatibility with the Foundation’s purpose.
